Countryfile presenter Sammi Kinghorn is set to welcome her first child with her long-term partner, Callum Aitken. The announcement was made on Instagram, where Sammi shared an adorable video of herself and Callum, both wearing caps with 'mum' and 'dad' written on them, respectively. In the video, Sammi is seen holding a scan photo and a pair of tiny lemon-colored knitted baby booties, and she writes in the caption, 'Half of me and half of you! We can’t wait to meet you in July.'
Sammi, a British world champion wheelchair racer, has overcome significant challenges in her life. In December 2010, she was crushed by snow and ice that fell from the roof of her family's farm, resulting in a broken back and emergency surgery. She spent five months in hospital and was left paralysed from the waist down. It was during her hospital stay that she discovered her passion for wheelchair racing, which has since become a significant part of her life and career.
Sammi's transition to wheelchair racing was a turning point. She said in an interview with The Scotsman in 2014, 'I thought I’d be in a bed forever. So, to then get into a wheelchair was amazing. I know it sounds strange, but I was so happy. Then to find I could actually compete in sport in my wheelchair has just been incredible. Sport has helped me hugely, helped me to really accept it.'
Sammi's athletic prowess was further showcased at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, where she won a gold medal in the T53 Women’s 100m and silver in the 400m, 800m, and 1,500m. Her success in the Paralympic Games is a testament to her resilience and determination.
In 2023, Sammi began her career in television by appearing as a presenter on BBC's Countryfile. Her journey from a wheelchair racer to a TV presenter is an inspiring narrative of overcoming adversity and pursuing new opportunities. The announcement of her pregnancy marks another significant milestone in her life, and her fans and friends have been quick to congratulate her on this joyous occasion.
